History

Once upon a time, local children’s author, poet and storyteller, Steve Sanfield, had an inspirational vision to bring the art of weaving tales into a more public arena and joined forces with the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center to create the first ever Sierra Storytelling Festival. With a setting that’s one of the best in Northern California, and a line-up of talented, nationally recognized storytellers, the festival has grown into a very popular annual event. Every year, hundreds of avid listeners travel across the country to attend “The Queen of Storytelling Festivals” for a weekend of summer magic. This summer is going to be our 33th annual Festival, and we expect excellent attendance throughout the weekend.
